About
Summer in Seville is a two week study abroad program to the southern Spanish city of Sevilla (in English, Seville). Students live with Spanish host families, attend Spanish classes, and go on a variety of excursions to culturally and historically important sites.
The goals of Summer in Seville are improved linguistic and cultural proficiency. Whereas many study abroad programs tend to be touristic in nature - students hot-rodding from city to city, racking up large hotel and restaurant bills while actually interacting very little with Spaniards - Summer in Seville is more academic in nature and centers around the home stay and immersive classes. This approach is more meaningful for students and also more cost-effective.
The program is a partnership with Texas Tech University's Seville Center, essentially a satellite TTU campus in Seville and home to Tech's most popular study abroad programs. As a student, Lovejoy Spanish teacher Seth Sartain studied at the Center, and in 2015 he coordinated with Center staff to offer this well-established collegiate study abroad program to high school students for the first time.
